Let’s face it, if you don’t already have an iPhone, you’re either trying to justify owning one or are secretly curious. Plus, you’ll almost certainly know someone who raves about theirs.
There are many useful and not so useful (but very entertaining) apps available. We asked our team to name their favourites and why. It should come as no surprise that increased efficiency was the biggest selling point of any app on their list.
- AirNZ mPass – creates a barcode to scan at the check-in kiosk. If you just have carry-on luggage head straight to the boarding gates with the barcode.
- Skype – free Skype-to-Skype calls from any Wi-Fi zone. A great money saver while traveling abroad.
- Runkeeper – if your New Year’s resolution was to get fit, then this app is a great way to map your progress by comparing the speed, distance, calories, route of previous runs, etc.
- IMexchange – the app that gives the missing feature – tasks that are syncronised with your Outlook.
- LinkedIn – stay up to date with your business contacts and swap details on the spot through Bluetooth.
- iPod – sync your iPhone with your iTunes account and get all your music onto your phone, eliminating the need for an individual iPod.
- Best Camera – take photos on your iPhone, edit them with a great range of effects and then share them directly via email, Facebook or Twitter.
This list hasn’t even scratched the surface of the apps available. There are apps for timesheets, live rugby updates and cooking demonstrations, not to mention games galore. Go to http://www.apple.com/nz/iphone/apps-for-iphone/ and check out a few more. But be prepared to be there a while – if you’ve thought it, there will be an app for it!
We love them so much we recently moved to 100% iPhones for all staff (previously we were mixed BlackBerry and iPhone environment). The business case stacked up - in fact we will achieve some ongoing monthly savings as well as productivity improvements. Ask or email Michael or Andrew to see how your business may also achieve efficiencies and savings by switching to iPhones.
