Working in IT it would have been a crime to not try and get our hands on the iPad the minute it was on the market. With the New Zealand release date for iPad not tipped until sometime in July, we had to take matters into our own hands. So, a short time after the US release, the iPad arrived on our doorstep.
There is no doubt that the iPad is a luxury item. With a starting price of around $700, it is a great entertainment tool. In short, this is what it has to offer:
- Mail – split screen view with keyboard
- Photos – view photos, slideshows, share, and open albums with one tap
- Videos – 9.7 inch high res screen for watching movies, tv shows, podcasts, music videos
- YouTube
- Extras - iPod, iTunes, iBooks, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Contacts, Home Screen
- Connectivity – Wireless and 3G
- Sound - Powerful built-in speakers and built in microphone
Here’s what Andrew says about his:
- Beautiful web browsing - there’s nothing better than an iPad to browse the web whilst at the airport . . . or on the couch
- Laptop substitute – there is no real need to take your laptop on short business trips if you have an iPad
- Instantaneous – the iPad comes on instantly – there is no waiting for it to power up and the battery life is fantastic
For Apples first go at it, Andrew gave the iPad a 9/10. He says if they add multitasking and a camera (for Skype) it would be 10/10!
