At IT Partners we are focused on building a culture of sustainability, through small but impactful choices that reduce our overall environmental impact as a company.
In 2021, we decided to take another step forward in our environmental efforts and obtain a Toitū carbonzero certification through Toitū Envirocare in accordance with ISO 14064-1 and the greenhouse gas (GHG) protocol. This certification indicates that our carbon footprint has been measured, verified, and offset, while also setting reduction goals for this footprint.
IT Partners current carbon footprint
Over the last two years, our top emission sources have been petrol and electricity related. It is not surprising that petrol is our highest emissions source, as many of our core business activities involve visiting client sites to provide support, in addition to the transportation of equipment. While our electricity emissions are related to head office activities, which involves powering a range of technical devices. The chart below summarises our carbon emissions for our most recent certification year:
Offsetting our footprint
To meet the requirements of the Toitū carbonzero ISO 14064-1 certification, we purchased ‘credits’ to offset these emissions. These credits contribute to a range of international projects focussed on either reducing or avoiding the production of emissions. The projects we have decided to support this year include:
- The Spraypoint Permanent Forest Sink in Marlborough, New Zealand
- The 40 MW Wind Power Project in Maliya, India
- Cookstove Distribution Projects in both India and Ethiopia
Our emissions reduction target
We recognise that in addition to offsetting our emissions, it is critical that we also reduce our overall carbon footprint. As a result, we have committed to reducing our GHG emissions by 5% per million dollar in revenue, on average, over the next five years.
It is important for us all to work together to build momentum, inspire change, and take credible action toward a more sustainable world. Becoming a Toitū carbonzeroCertTM certified business is an important step in this direction and we look forward to sharing more on how we plan to reduce our emission footprint shortly!
