On the 14th of January 2020 Microsoft support of Windows 7 will end. After this date, technical assistance and software updates that help to protect Windows 7 PC’s will no longer be available. This will lead to significant risks as operating systems that are not patched become vulnerable to cyberattacks.
At IT Partners we strongly recommend that you move to Windows 10 prior to this date. It is worth noting that a transition to Windows 10 can lead to many benefits.
These benefits include:
Windows 10 PC’s have built-in defences against modern security threats, which are always kept up-to-date. This will ensure that your device is protected, no matter where you go. In comparison, from January 2020 Windows 7 will no longer receive security updates, significantly increasing your vulnerability.
Windows 7 PC’s, that are older than 4 years, cause more than 2.1 times increase in lost productivity (hours), costing, on average, $1,800 per device. The newer PC’s can also run 8 or more applications at any one time, compared to older devices that can only run 5 applications before performance degradation is experienced.
Speed and Performance
Windows 10 devices have a startup time that is on average 28% faster than Windows 7, supported by batteries that lasts 3 x longer. Overall, this will save you time and enable you to work remotely for longer.
Lower Maintenance Costs
Windows 10 PC’s can potentially lead to 1.5 times lower repair and maintenance costs, this equates to an average saving of $2,400 per year in total maintenance costs.
With Window 10 you have the option of storing your Office files like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in the cloud, which acts as a virtual online drive. If this is your preference, you will have the ability to share and work on documents in real time.
An Evergreen Operating System
Windows 10 has been designed for its core components to be updated and changed individually. This is referred to as Evergreen IT, an operating system that is always up to date. This removes the need for you to regularly purchase the latest version of Windows.
It is important to take these benefits into account when determining the future of your operating system. For further information about Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 and how we could assist please feel free to email the IT Partners team on phone 07 957 2650.
