Driving down Te Rapa Straight and at certain locations around Hamilton City, you may have noticed online accounting software Xero’s beautifully large billboards. One thing you may not have noticed though is their new Two-Step Authentication for all customers.
While there has been an increase in the volume of phishing attacks, it is important that we stay proactive about data security. We all want to feel safe when entering our account names and passwords into business software, online banking and other websites. That’s why at IT Partners we take security solutions seriously.
Xero also take security seriously and as such have established Two-Step Authentication with the aim of providing:

Two-step Authentication can help keep your account from being compromised by phishing and malware.”
What is Two-Step Authentication?
Once you have Two-Step Authentication enabled, logging into Xero becomes a two-step process:
Step 1: Log into your Xero dashboard using your username and password.
Step 2: Enter a six-digit code provided by Google Authenticator app on your smartphone.
What is Google Authentication?
Google Authenticator is a free app that generates two-step verification codes on your phone. The unique code (that changes randomly every minute) means only a person with access to the trusted device will be able to log in – making it more difficult for unauthorised people to access your information.
Google Authenticator can be implemented for your team as part of security best practice especially if you are using Dropbox, LastPass or even Gmail for personal email accounts.
